Dead Dog Found Buried in Meriden Park

A dead dog was found buried in a Meriden park Thursday night. Police are not sure how the dog died, but the animal control officer thought it might have been hit by a car.

Officers responded to City Park around 11:30 p.m. Thursday to investigate after someone who was out walking a dog found a small dead dog.

Police said they found an adult female "terrier" type dog in a plastic bag and it appears as if someone buried an it there in a shallow hole.

The dog had no identifying tags and police said it’s possible the dog had passed away and its owner did not know how to properly handle the animal’s body.

Police said pet owners can bury a pet on their private property or work with a veterinarian.

Police said there is nothing more to investigate unless something new becomes available.
