A Vernon resident can partly thank the dog for helping cops track a burglary suspect through the woods, and a swamp, to a mobile home.

The dog started barking and led the owner of the Cemetery Road house upstairs on Friday afternoon, where they found that a window had been forced open, police said.

The resident saw a male outside running off and called police.

After a 50-minute chase into the woods through the woods and water, the officer and his dog, Pito, found the suspect, Richard Orlowski at a mobile home on Stonewood Terrace.

Police arrested Richard Orlowski, 30, of South Windsor. He’s been charged with second-degree burglary and third-degree criminal mischief. Bond was set at $50,000.
