Double Take: Twins Vie for World Record
Southbury could have the most twins to graduate at once
13 sets of twins have teachers doing a double take in Southbury.
Teachers at Southbury's Pomperaug High School probably think they need to get their eyes checked. There are 13 sets of twins in the senior class alone, and those twins hope they can set a word record.
Lauren Damiani and her twin Alyssa think it’s such a big deal they have their sights set on the Guinness Book World Record to become the largest collection of twins to graduate at the same time, the Waterbury Republican American reports.
"We thought we might have a world record," Lauren, 17, told the paper. "I got excited. I want to find out more and see it happen."
The current record holder is the Raymond J. Grey Jr. High School of Acton, Mass. Guinness spokeswoman Jamie Panas told the newspaper that record was set in the 2006-07 academic school year with 10 sets of twins.
But Pomperaug’s senior class thinks they can easily beat that. Of the 322 students, there are four sets of identical twins and nine sets of fraternal equaling, 26 students who can try for the record.
Jake Critelli, a twin, is stoked about the possibility of breaking the world record.
"You would expect another school system to have this, but not us. A lot of the twins already do stuff together, but we've never been together like this before," he said.
