Dr. William Petit Engaged

He will marry photographer Christine Paluf, according to a family friend.

William Petit, the lone survivor of the 2007 Cheshire home invasion, is engaged.

Rick Healey, a friend of Dr. William Petit who has served as his spokesman, confirmed Wednesday that Petit became engaged over the weekend to Christine Paluf. There is no wedding date.

Family friend Ann Baldwin told NBC Connecticut she is happy for Dr. Petit and hopes the engagement to Paluf will help him move forward with his life.

Paluf, 34, is a wedding and portrait photographer. She has also photographed Petit Family Foundation Events, according to the Hartford Courant, which first reported the story.  A photo of Dr. Petit at an event appears on Paluf's website.

Petit's wife, Jennifer Hawke-Petit, and his two daughters, Hayley 18, and Michaela, 11, were killed during a home invasion in their Cheshire home in 2007.

Joshua Komisarjevsky and Steven Hayes were convicted of the murders and sentenced to death. The trial for Komisarjevsky ended in December. Paluf joined Petit at the Komisarjevsky trial.
