A driver was taken to Bridgeport Hospital after crashing down an embankment on Interstate 95 southbound in Fairfield late Wednesday morning, fire officials said.
Emergency responders were called to the scene around 11 a.m. Wednesday after a car drove off the highway and went down an embankment between exits 22 and 21 on the southbound side, said Fairfield Asst. Fire Chief Christopher Tracy.
The car became lodged against a tree, and firefighters had to extricate the driver, Tracy said. The driver, who has not been identified, was taken to Bridgeport Hospital in unknown condition.
State police, Fairfield police, the American Medical Response and the state Department of Transportation also responded to the scene.
State police are investigating to determine the cause of the crash.
