Route 63 in Naugatuck Closed After Fatal Crash

A 29-year-old Prospect man was killed when his car hit a utility pole on New Haven Road in Naugatuck just after midnight.

Police said Thomas Matson was driving a gray four-door Pontiac Bonneville southbound when it crashed on Route 63 between Warren Avenue and Osborn Road by the old Peter Paul candy factory.

The road was closed as emergency crews investigated and power lines were repaired. The road is now open to one lane and traffic is alternating. It is expected to reopen completely this afternoon.

Matson was alone in the car when the crash happened, according to police.

Investigators are trying to determine whether heavy rain and wet pavement were factors in the crash.
