Driver Killed in Wrong-Way Crash

The driver of the car heading the wrong way died, police said.

A 20-year-old Waterbury woman who police said was driving the wrong way on Interstate 84 on Monday night was killed in a head-on crash.

Amanda Grenier was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes around 11 p.m. between the exit 24 off-ramp in Waterbury and the exit ramp and struck a 2009 Toyota RAV 4 driven by Monica Evens, 51, of Bethlehem, police said.

The Abbey of Regina Laudis in Bethlehem owns the vehicle that Evens was driving, according to state police.

Grenier, Evens and Grenier’s passenger, Kaleigh Morgan, 20, of Waterbury, were all taken to St. Mary’s Hospital.

Grenier was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Evens and Morgan were treated for minor injuries and have been released.
