The woman says it happended on Route 9 in New Britain. Somebody threw rocks off an overpass. While she wasn't hurt, her car suffered major damage.
Beth Lemek's front windshield was struck at least four times. The sunroof glass was shattered. There are also dents on the hood and grill. The damage to Lemek's Infiniti is the aftermath of one scary ride home on Sunday evening.
"(I was) just driving normally on Route 9 and I went under one of those underpasses and, all of a sudden, (I) had a bunch of banging on my car and my windshield shattered, and then my sunroof shattered," Beth Lemek, of West Hartford, said.
Just before she reached exit 29 on Route 9 northbound, her car was struck. State police said someone was throwing objects from an overpass in New Britain.
Once Beth heard the noise, she immediately pulled over.
"I didn't really know. It was so loud. It was a lot of five or six really strong bangs and I had no idea what hit me," Lemek said.
She usually drives with her sunroof open, but that night she kept it closed, and that move likely protected her, "so had that been open, I most likely would have been hit by whatever crashed into my sunroof," Lemek said.
Her car wasn't the only to be struck that night. Another car pulled up behind her's and they driver also was hit.
Despite the fencing, police said, it is a spot where that type of mischief has happened before.
