Drunken Driver Arrested After Hitting Multiple Vehicles, Fleeing Scene: Stratford Police

Police arrested a drunken driver after a hit-and-run crash involving multiple vehicles  in Stratford Saturday night, police said.

Bertrand Tremel Jr., 44, of Stratford, is accused of crashing into at least three vehicles on the Devon/Washington Bridge while intoxicated and then fleeing the scene at about 7 p.m. on Saturday.

Police found his GMC pickup truck abandoned on Sheriden Street in Stratford. A K-9 unit tracked Tremel down at his home and witnesses identified him as the driver, police said.

There were multiple injuries reported. Police did not release information on who was injured and how many people.

Police charged Tremel with operating while under the influence of alcohol, evading responsibility, following too close, driving with a suspended license, driving an uninsured motor vehicle, misuse of a marker plate, operating an unregistered motor vehicle and interfering with an officer.
