Drunken Man Carrying Guns at Danbury Shooting Range Arrested: State Police

A man is facing charges after state police said he was handling guns while intoxicated at a gun range in Danbury in the presence of dozens of people including children, state police.

State police responded to the Wooster Mountain gun range at 74 Sugar Hollow Road after the manager of the state-operated facility reported to authorities that there was an intoxicated man there in possession of firearms.

The man was identified by his driver's license as Patrick Straub, 38, of Danbury.

When state police arrived there were about 30 people in the area, including children, and witnesses told police Straub was having trouble balancing and smelled like alcohol. The trooper responded noticed Straub's eyes were glassy and that he was having trouble walking, state police said.

State police escorted Straub to the parking lot in front of the gun range, away from the public and gunfire, state police said. He failed standardized field sobriety tests state police conducted.

State police charged Straub with carrying a firearm while under the influence of alcohol and breach of peace.

His non-surety bond was set at $5,000.

He is scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court on Jan. 15.
