East Hartford Car Accident Causes Power Outages

Over 300 CL&P customers lost power in East Hartford when a car smashed into a telephone pole around 8:45 p.m. Sunday night.

The pole snapped and there were sparks and burning, said the East Hartford Fire Department. Wires were damaged but not down, causing 324 CL&P customers to lose power in the East Hartford area, according to CL&P outage maps around 9 p.m.

Fire officials said the intersection was shut down  CL&P crews worked to restore power.

The car was towed and the driver was taken into custody. No injuries were reported.
