Federal authorities arrested an East Hartford police officer Thursday on child pornography charges.
According to the U.S. Attorney in Connecticut, Andrew Nielsen, 48, purchased DVDs containing child pornography from a foreign company between November 2010 and April 2011. Nielsen had the DVDs shipped to his house in South Windsor.
Federal agents searched Nielsen's house Thursday and found multiple DVDs with images and videos of child pornography on them, according to prosecutors.
Nielsen was arrested and taken before a judge in Federal Court in Hartford Thursday and was released on bond. Nielsen must wear an electronic monitoring device while out on bond, authorities said.
Nielsen faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
His status with the East Hartford Police Department was not clear Thursday evening.
