East Haven Disaster Center to Remain Open

Cosey Beach, in East Haven, was one of the areas hit hardest by Irene.

East Haven’s Disaster Loan Outreach Center will remain open until Oct. 27 to assist residents affected by Tropical Storm Irene, Gov. Dannel Malloy announced on Wednesday.

Cosey Beach Avenue was one of the hardest hit areas when Tropical Storm Irene ripped through the neighborhood. More than a dozen homes were lost, some of which were reduced to a pile of wood by the storm.

The disaster assistance center was scheduled to close on Thursday, but the governor said federal representatives will remain on hand to assist residents in the disaster outreach process.

Residents considering any form of disaster assistance must register with FEMA online anytime at www.disasterassistance.gov, or call 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or 1-800-462-7585 for TTY. Operators will be available between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. daily.

The disaster outreach center is located at the East Haven Town Beach at 160 Cosey Beach Road.
