An elderly man was found, face down in Farm River in East Haven on Tuesday.
The family of Stephen Ross, 81, went to check on him when he did not return from a fishing trip and found him, Fire Marshal and Deputy Fire Chief Anthony Mocscato said.
Ross was declared dead at the scene, Moscato said.
Police are investigating the circumstances of the death, he said.
