Elderly Man Sues Greenwich Police Over Alleged Brutality

A 76-year-old man has filed a lawsuit alleging a Greenwich police officer threw him against his car and kicked him after pulling him over for using his cellphone while driving.

Hearst Connecticut Media reports that Edmund Schwesinger Jr. sued Greenwich police and Officer Daniel Hendrie on Friday in federal court in Bridgeport. The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages on allegations including assault, use of excessive force and infliction of emotional distress.

The lawsuit alleges Hendrie assaulted Schwesinger during a traffic stop two years ago as Schwesinger was driving to see his wife at a hospital. Schwesinger says he suffered serious injuries to his eye, shoulder and neck.

Schwesinger was arrested, but a judge later dismissed all charges.

Police say Schwesinger pushed and kicked Hendrie and refused to obey commands.
