Vicious Birds Could Be Euthanized

State officials might have to put down birds cops think were used for cockfighting.

The end might be near for hundreds of vicious chickens and roosters taken from a Harwinton home.

State police received a call and went to investigate at a home on Litchfield Road on Friday.

Officials said they are not sure whether the birds actually fought on the property and they did not find any fighting rings but there was evidence that this was house of horrors for the birds -- spurs and other sharp objects used to arm roosters during battles.

Wayne Kasacek, a Connecticut agriculture official say, says it is likely the 357 birds will likely be destroyed after police determine whether they were used for illegal cockfighting.

No charges have been filed against the homeowners, but the investigation is continuing.
