Enfield Husband Pleads Guilty to Manslaughter of Wife

He told police he was tired of changing his wife's diapers.

An Enfield man who police said killed his wife because he was tired of changing her diapers every day pleaded guilty on Tuesday to manslaughter.

Police arrested John Dewees Jr., 49  after finding his wife, Anja Dewees, 46, dead at the couple's home on 4 Magnolia Drive.

A neighbor called police to report a possible death and said John Dewees Jr. "was acting a little weird," according to police.

When police investigated, they found his wife's body in a bedroom, wrapped in a deflated waterbed mattress and electrical tape. She had been in house for two days, according to the arrest warrant application.

Dewees Jr. told police that his wife had been ill for about four years and he had been taking car of her, feeding her and bathing her, police said.

He originally said his wife "came out of his hands" as he was putting her into the tub and he put her in bed after the bath. When he woke up the next day, he knew his wife was dead, but did not want to call anyone because he wanted to stay with her for a couple of days, he told police.

When police confronted him, Dewees Jr. admitted to pushing his wife into the tub and hitting the side of her head because he was tired of changing her diapers every day, according to the arrest warrant application.

Dewees is scheduled to be sentenced to June 18.
