Ex-Cop Reaches Plea Deal in Motorcycle Crash

He hit a 14-year-old girl, breaking both her legs, before speeding away.

The former New Haven police officer who hit a 14-year-old girl with his motorcycle and then took off pleaded no contest to charges Monday.

Marquis Morrison faces up to five years in prison after entering the plea in New Haven Superior Court, according to the New Haven Register.

Morrison was a probationary officer in April 2010 when he ran the girl down on North Frontage Road and Sherman Avenue. The girl suffered serious injuries, including two broken legs.

In the days after the accident, Morrison denied any involvement, but later confessed after evidence, including a broken hand he sustained in the accident, pointed to him as the suspect. The motorcycle he was riding was unregistered and uninsured at the time of the crash.

Monday, Morrison pleaded no contest to felony evading responsibility and second-degree assault charges, the paper reported. The plea bargain includes a sentenced of 10 years, suspended after five years, according to the Register.
