Some gift cards never made it to their ultimate destination because a postal employee stole them, according to the United States Attorney’s office.
A former postal employee dipped into the mail, helped herself to $1,000 in gift cards, then went shopping, according to the United States Attorney’s office.
The woman, whose last name just happens to be Police, stole about the cards, which were from several stores, between August to December of 2008 and used them herself, Nora R. Dannehy, Acting United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, said.
Edith Police, 53, of Bridgeport, pleaded guilty Monday to one count of misappropriating postal funds when she worked as a mail-processing clerk for the United States Postal Service.
Police no longer works for the Postal Service and will be sentenced on Oct. 1.
She could serve a maximum term of imprisonment of one year and a fine of up $100,000.
