Fairfield Home Damaged by Lightning Strike

A house in Fairfield was damaged when lightning struck a tree just feet away from it on Thursday morning.

Residents of 360 Surrey Lane called the Fairfield Fire Department at 11:24 a.m. to report that lightning struck and a tree came down on the garage.

The tree is about 5 feet away from the house, and photos show branches down and damage to the garage.

Several fire crews quickly responded, learned that the residents were OK, secured the utilities and called a local building official.

“The family was very fortunate that they were not in the area of structural collapse from the tree,” the incident commander, Fairfield Fire Assistant Chief Schuyler Sherwood, said in a news release.
