State police have arrested a Mansfield man accused of assaulting his 5-month-old baby.
On May 31, 2013, state police began investigating the assault of a baby who was suffering from several injuries that could not be explained.
The child had new fractures as well as others that were in the process of healing, according to police.
On Monday, police arrested the child’s father, David Saegaert, 19, and charged him with first-degree assault and risk of injury to a minor.
Saegaert was held in lieu of $50,000 bond and has appeared in court.
The State Department of Children and Families was involved in the investigation of the case and took temporary custody of the child, who is expected to make a full recovery.
