Local officials are becoming more and more frustrated as residents go on day six of no power and streets remain blocked in power lines entangled with trees.
In South Windsor, more than 35 streets are still blocked since the strom on Saturday and dozens of homes are isolated because of the downed wires and fallen trees, officials said in a news release.
Power remains out for more than 8,000 CL&P customers as of 11:30 a.m., which is 72 percent of the customer base.
“Because of CL&P’s lack of action, residents of South Windsor could die in fires and homes could burn to the ground,” South Windsor Fire Chief Philip Crombie Jr. said in a strongly worded news release distributed on Friday morning.
He said South Windsor town crews have cleared the roads they could over the week, but others are blocked because trees are entangled with wires, making it impossible for fire apparatus to access the homes if needed.
In the last 24 hours, CL&P has taken no action to correct this situation, officials said.
“We now feel it necessary to publically state that we intend to hold the President and Board of Directors of CL&P responsible for any fire deaths, injuries, or property damage in those portions of town that remain inaccessible,” officials said.
