A small fire broke out at McGee Middle School in Berlin Thursday morning.

According to fire officials, a squirrel damaged electrical wires outside the building at 899 Norton Road, which caused a short in the boiler room, sparking the fire.

Power was cut to the school and it was evacuated for more than an hour.

The power was restored and students were allowed back inside just before 11 a.m.
