Fired Norwich Police Officer Charged in Stonington Jewelry Burglary

Police have arrested two suspects, including a fired Norwich police officer, on accusations they smashed a plate glass window at a Stonington antique shop and stole jewelry early Monday morning.

Police charged former Norwich police officer Jamie D. Longolucco of Westerly, Rhode Island, and Meredith Soulia of Groton with criminal mischief, larceny and burglary.

At about 2 a.m., Stonington police received a 911 call from a resident who reported hearing the sound of breaking glass. The caller lives near near Yost Estate Jewelry and Stonington Antiques Etc. at 148 Water Street, police said. Another caller saw a car leaving the store and gave a description of it to police.

Longolucco and Soulia were arrested in connection to the incident and released on bond. They scheduled to appear in New London Superior Court on June 29.

The 41-year-old Longolucco was fired by Norwich police in 2007 after three arrests and a conviction on third-degree assault and breach of peace stemming from an off-duty fight with two women.

Longolucco and the 34-year-old Soulia do not have listed phone numbers and it was not known Tuesday if they are represented by lawyers.
