Firefighter Charged in Fatal Crash

A Middletown firefighter turned himself in to police in connection with a fatal car crash in July, and there is a warrant for the other driver.

Stephen Tyrseck, 36, of Durham, was driving south on South Main Street, approaching Highland Avenue, at 2:25 a.m. on Sunday, July 24 and Jedidiah Roesler, 22, of Meriden, was traveling north on South Main Street and trying to turn left onto Highland Avenue when the cars collided, police said.

Alexander Martinez, 20, of Meriden, was ejected from Roesler’s car and pronounced dead at the scene.

Tyrseck and the other three occupants of the Honda were transported to Hartford Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Tyrseck is a firefighter with the South Fire District in Middletown.

Tyrseck was charged with second-degree manslaughter with a motor vehicle, misconduct with a motor vehicle, negligent homicide with a motor vehicle, reckless driving, driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol and speeding, according to the Killingworth-Durham-Middlefield Patch.

Police said there is a warrant for Roesler.
