Firefighter Injured Battling House Fire in Oxford

An Oxford firefighter was sent to the hospital Tuesday night after being injured while battling a house fire.

Crews were called to a home on Christian Street around 9:30 p.m. for a chimney fire.

When firefighters arrived at the scene, they were met with heavy smoke and flames, which had spread to the attic.

Both people living inside the home made it out safely.

One firefighter was transported to a local hospital for minor smoke inhalation and second-degree burns to his neck.

The home suffered smoke and water damage. It is not clear whether the family can return.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
