Firefighters Rescue Baby Ducks from Storm Drain in Shelton

Two baby ducks are safe after firefighters in Shelton rescued them from a storm drain on Saturday morning.

Officials say a Mallard duck was at the intersection of Leavenworth Road and Maple Avenue with her babies when two of them fell into the storm drain.

Members of White Hills Volunteer Fire Company responded with their fire truck and opened the storm drain.

Firefighters say one fireman climbed into the storm drain to rescue one baby duck. The other baby duck went into the storm pipe and would not come out.

After several attempts, officials say the baby duck would not surface and the firefighters left.

Within moments of the firefighters leaving, the second baby duck came out of the drain and began chirping for its mother.

The fire department returned and firefighters were able to save the second baby duck.
