Middletown firefighters rescued two people inside a residential building during a structure at 6 Alsop Avenue late Friday night.
The fire happened around 11 p.m. When crews responded they discovered a fire on the deck of the two-and-a-half-story residential building that was spreading to the roof along the exterior of the structure.
Two people were still inside and firefighters helped the residents down the stairs to get out. Firefighters extinguished the blaze and cleared the scene soon after.
Westfield and South District firefighters also responded for mutual aid.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
