This spring New England’s first party bike will debut on the streets of the Elm City.
"A party bike is essentially a pedal powered trolley, open air trolley, where you get to rove through the streets," said Colin Caplan from Elm City Party Bikes. "You can stop at bars and pubs and sight see, and it’s a great way to socialize, exercise and be green."
Caplan and his business partner a Christian Bruckhart are both born and raised in New Haven.
"Party bikes have been longing to come to the Elm City since bikes were invented here in 1866," Caplan said.
From the famous Italian restaurants in Wooster Square to the bars and pubs on Crown Street, Elm City Party Bikes will offer a new way to explore New Haven’s cultural and culinary destinations.
"We’re going to be dropping people off for like happy hour specials at bars and working with bars and restaurant to promote the city and make it a safer and more fun place," Caplan said.
With its 15 seats, Caplan said a party bike tour is a great option for birthday, officer and bachelorette parties.

A company operator will always be at the front steering wheel, so riders who are 21 and over will be allowed to drink.
"I personally don’t like to exercise while I drink, so, maybe not so much for me, but for other people I think it looks like a good time," said Nicolas Phillips from New Haven. "I think it’s something young people in general will probably be interested in."
"For my friends who don’t want to pedal," Caplan said. "They can go into the back bench, these two kind of bike seats that we have."
Elm City Party Bikes is taking reservations in advance of the April 1 launch date.
