U.S. and state flags will be flown at half-staff in Connecticut in recognition of the tragic shooting in Colorado.
In response to a proclamation from President Barack Obama, Gov. Dannel Malloy directed flags to half-staff through sunset Wednesday, July 25 to honor the victims of the rampage inside a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado.
"What happened in Colorado is a traumatic and terrible event -- the victims and their families are in our prayers today, and our thoughts are with the people of Colorado," Malloy said.
According to authorities, the gunman, identified as James Holmes, walked into the a screening of "The Dark Knight Rises" around 12:30 a.m. local time wearing body armor and a mask. Holmes shot 71 people, killing 12, police said.
Police took Holmes into custody shortly after the shooting.
