Florida Atlantic University Terminates Sandy Hook ‘Truther' Teacher

The Florida Atlantic University released a statement of termination for James Tracy who called the shooting that killed 20 students and six educators a hoax by the Obama administration.

The university said in a release that School of Communication and Multimedia Studies professor Tracy was served a notice of termination Tuesday. The school sent Tracy a notice of proposed discipline last month, with 10 days to respond. School officials didn't say whether he responded.

Although the school gave no reason for the action, the parents of one student killed at Sandy Hook recently claimed in a Florida newspaper opinion piece that Tracy was taunting them.

Tracy posted a controversial blog that claimed the Sandy Hook massacre was staged by the Obama administration to push gun control, the Hartford Courant reported.

"I think there may very well be elements of that event that are synthetic to some degree, that are somewhat contrived," Tracey said in a 2013 interview with NBC affiliate WPTV.

Tracy was reprimanded in 2013 for writing in his blog that the Sandy Hook killing was staged, and he has questioned accounts of other mass slayings.

Tracy was an associate professor in the School of Communication and Multimedia Studies.

Last month, the school served Tracy with a notice of proposed discipline--termination by the vice provost.
