Former Attorney Accused of Embezzling $1 Million from Former Client

Bristol Police

Bristol police have arrested a former Bristol attorney who they said is accused of stealing more than $1 million from an elderly former client.

Roger Nielson, 65, of Bristol, was arrested on Friday after an investigation that started in July 2012, when police received a complaint from the estate of one of Nielson’s former clients.

Nielson had been added as power-of-attorney to his client’s bank account and is accused of writing himself 15 checks, ranging in value from $1,000 to $150,000, between June through December 2011, police said.

Detectives from the Bristol Police Department arrested  Nielson on Friday morning and said he was charged with 14 counts of first-degree larceny and 15 counts of second-degree larceny

Nielson was held on a court-set $25,000 cash/surety bond and will be arraigned in Bristol Superior Court today.
