Former Hartford Man Killed in New York Fire

Authorities said they've identified the fourth victim of a fire that destroyed two adjacent apartment buildings in downtown Schenectady earlier this month as a former Hartford man.

Police in Schenectady identified the victim as Robert Thomas, 31, formerly of Hartford, Connecticut.

The fire also claimed the lives of a 33-year-old woman and two men, ages 37 and 59, after it started in the 59-year-old man's apartment early on the morning of March 6.

Officials said the blaze is believed to have started accidentally when the man's reclining chair caught fire, either from a candle, cigarette or incense.

Seven people were injured and about 60 people were displaced by the fire.

Thomas was an Army veteran who grew up in Hartford and had been living in Schenectady for about a year.
