Former NBA Star, Addict to Speak at Glastonbury School

Former NBA star Chris Herren is heading to Glastonbury later this week to share his story of substance abuse and recovery with students at Smith Middle School.

Chris Herren, who played for the Boston Celtics and Denver Nuggets, dealt with substance abuse throughout his professional basketball career. He has been alcohol- and drug-free since Aug. 1, 2008, and has become a motivational speaker and author.

Herren will speak at Smith Middle School at 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. on March 6. The session is being sponsored by The Kenneth Joyce Foundation and G’bury Kids for Kids.

He put his journey onto paper in his memoir, Basketball Junkie, and is also involved in the ESPN Films documentary "Unguarded."

The Chris Herren program is a kickoff event to G’bury Kids for Kids 3rd Annual Basketball Tournament, which will be on Sunday, March 22 in efforts to raise money for charities helping children.
