Go-Kart Track Set to Open In Montville, Adding 100 Jobs to Economy

What's being called the biggest indoor racing track in the world is weeks away from opening in Montville.

Along with quenching a need for speed, NASKART Indoor Karting and Trampoline Park is also revving up the job market in Southeast Connecticut.

"It's going to be the largest indoor multilevel track in the world. Yeah, the whole world," said Cody Browning, general manager of NASKART.

Along with two tracks totaling a half mile, and go-karts that reach speeds up to 45 mph, the 110,000 square foot facility is equipped with a trampoline park, cafe and full bar.

But don't expect to drink and drive. Guests will be subject to a breathalyzer and won't be served if they have a race scheduled.

"This is a family area. Tourism is booming in this area. We want to add to it," said Sales Manager Rachel Metz.

Management said NASKART is bringing at least $7 million back to the local economy.

They're looking to hire about 100 people to staff NASKART are hosted a job fair at the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday night. The Chamber said there will be another job fair Friday.

Most of the people working to build the race track and facility -- from contractors, to electricians, to plumbers -- are from Connecticut and Rhode Island. Many have worked on projects for the owner's before.

"It's nice to be able to go home and see the family and not be away from them," said David Mikienis, a sheet metal foreman with Mechanical Pluming & Heating.

"It's almost like building a legacy in my backyard, you know. We're part of the community, we're gonna stay here forever," said Robert Walter, owner of Walter Electric. "Twenty years from now my children are going to drive by here and say we're a part of that that." Walter lives in the neighboring town of East Lyme.

NASKART is set to open Dec. 16.
