Gov. Malloy Orders for Connecticut Flags to Be Lowered After Oregon Shooting

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy has ordered flags lowered to half-staff in honor of the nine people killed after a gunman opened fire on an Oregon community college campus.

Malloy said all U.S. and state flags in Connecticut will fly at half-staff beginning immediately until sunset on Tuesday in accordance with a proclamation from President Barack Obama to lower flags.

Malloy said the lowering of flags in honor of the victims at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon will coincide with Sunday's Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service. Flags would normally be lowered on that date.

Those killed ranged from teens starting college for the first time to adults seeking a second career.

The worst mass shooting in Oregon history also injured several others. The gunman died following a shootout with police.
