Grandmother, Grandchild Drowned in Koi Pond

The grandmother was babysitting.

A 67-year-old grandmother and her 2-year-old grandson drowned in a small koi pond at a Greenwich home, the medical examiner confirmed.

Anna Furano, 67, and her 2-year-old grandson, Massimo, were found in a Koi pond behind the Furano's Fox's Lane Road around 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, police said.

Furano and her husband, Carmine Furano, were babysitting the toddler. Carmine Furano left the home around 9 a.m., and found his wife and grandchild in the pond when he returned.

The small pool is surrounded by a low stone wall and a 2-1/2 foot high fence.
