Groton Police Arrest Bank Robbery Suspect

Groton Police have arrested a man suspected of robbing the People's United Bank at a Groton supermarket on Wednesday afternoon.

According to police, a man in his late 20s or early 30s entered the Super Stop and Shop on Route 12 just before 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, robbed the bank branch there and got away with an undisclosed amount of money.

The getaway car was described as a gray 2003-2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a chrome grill on the front.

Police have arrested  Vincent Nicastro, 32, of Westerly, Rhode Island, and charged him with robbery in the third degree and larceny in the sixth degree.

Rhode Island immediately took Nicastro into custody as a fugitive from justice after Groton police obtained a warrant for him. 

Nicastro was held in Rhode Island but has since been extradited back to Connecticut.

The robbery was the second at the bank in a week.
