Guard Unit Returns in Time for Thanksgiving

About 80 Connecticut National Guard airmen who deployed to Afghanistan last May are returning home in time for Thanksgiving.

Members of the 103rd Air Control Squadron are scheduled to arrive at the Bradley Air National Guard base at around 10 p.m. on Tuesday.

National Guard officials said the Orange-based squadron known as "Yankee Watch" helped control coalition airspace during its fourth deployment to southwest Asia. The unit's mission is detection, identification and surveillance of air traffic for combat operations and homeland defense.

There are about 700 Connecticut National Guard soldiers and airmen still deployed in southwest Asia.
