Rudy Marconi, First Selectman in Ridgefield, has his eyes set on Governor Rell's office.

You may not know his name yet, but Rudy Marconi makes it clear he’s swinging for Gov. Rell’s job.

In an open letter, the Ridgefield first selectman said he was surprised to learn his already wealthy town had been granted another $200,000 to enhance the town’s ball field, and asked Rell to reconsider giving it to his town.

"We never requested the grant, and I was surprised to learn about it," he wrote in an open letter.

The Democrat considers these unnecessary upgrades at a time when the budget is, well, not quite batting a thousand.

“After seeing your list of budget cuts this week, it’s clear the $200,000 could be much better spent,” he explains.  He goes on to list cuts Rell made to an autism services project, Head Start and an elderly rental registry, all of which could be prevented if the state didn’t fork over the $200,000 to his town.

Also, in a surely altruistic way, he offered that if Rell wanted to bond $20 million “for projects that can make a difference, my fellow mayors and first selectmen and I will be happy to give you a list.”

Rell’s office says the last letter from Marconi was from August 2008, when he thanked the Governor for arts funding.

Marconi describes himself as an exploratory candidate for governor.
