Hartford Police Investigate Serious Crash on New Britain Avenue

Three teenagers were hurt when a stolen car crashed into a pillar at the intersection of New Britain Avenue and Summit Street Tuesday morning, according to Hartford Police.

The vehicle smashed into a pillar near an entrance to Trinity College around 5 a.m.

Hartford police confirmed that the vehicle had been reported stolen out of West Hartford.

Police said that one of the occupants, a 16-year-old boy, was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated. He was taken to Connecticut Children's Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition, but is expected to survive.

Two 14-year-old girls were also involved and received treatment at CCMC for non-life threatening injuries.

None of the teens were identified due to their age.

The crash is under investigation.

This is not the first serious crash in the area. A 22-year-old man was killed when he crashed into one of the same pillars on Jan. 1, 2018.

This is the second crash involving a stolen vehicle in Hartford within about six hours. Around 11 p.m. Monday, a stolen pickup ran a red light at Ward and Zion streets and crashed into two other vehicles, killing one of those drivers and injuring two other people.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
