Hartford Residents Post Concerns on Social Media About ‘Lime Bike' Bike Share Program

It has been roughly two weeks since the launch of Hartford’s new bike share program, LimeBike. Three-hundred of the lime green bikes can be found around the city, and customers are free to ride them throughout Hartford and neighboring towns. It only costs a dollar for every half-hour.

“We’re providing sustainability, affordability, and mobility to the community,” said Hartford LimeBike Operations Manager, Darrin Rees.

The LimeBike team works throughout the day to round up parked bikes around the Hartford zone and redistribute them in the city.

”They could go over to East Hartford, to West Hartford," said Rees. "We have a local operations that I track. I track all the bicycles, and our team goes all throughout the day and the evening and scoops up all the outliers and brings them back to the Hartford Zone.”

According to Rees, there has not been any vandalism or theft. Police said they are working to track down a few unaccounted bikes after some were taken indoors. However, people in Hartford have taken to social media to post about problems they have seen, such as a bike being dumped in the water. Rees and police encourage people to report any bikes being damaged or misused.

“If we don’t know, we can’t help," said Lieutenant Gabriel Laureano with the Hartford Police Department. "If you see a bike somewhere and you don’t think it belongs there, it should be there. If you see someone bringing one inside, say something, and we’ll always do our best to keep complaints anonymous.”
