Hartford Woman Critically Injured in Apartment Fire

A 59-year-old woman is in critical condition after suffering serious burns in a Hartford apartment fire Saturday night, authorities said.

According to Hartford Fire Department Capt. Jim McLoughlin, the fire broke out around 11:15 p.m. Saturday in a third-floor studio apartment at 131 Washington Street.

Firefighters rescued the victim but she received life-threatening injuries before she was pulled from the flames. McLoughlin said the victim is suffering second- and third-degree burns all over her body and inside her airway. She was rushed to the Bridgeport Hospital Burn Unit, where she’s listed in critical condition.

Authorities are investigating to determine the cause of the fire, but McLoughlin said they believe the fire to be accidental.

The victim has not been identified.

Hartford fire officials remind residents to check their smoke alarms and take safety precautions.
