Healthy Food Pilot Program Launched in Fairfield County

An online marketplace for farmers markets and a nonprofit Connecticut health insurance company are launching a new program to bring local, fresh food to Fairfield County residents.

Fresh Nation and HealthyCT announced their new pilot program on Wednesday. Organizers believe it's the first formal partnership of its kind.

Fresh Nation workers visit farmers markets and fill customer's online orders. The company delivers the food to consumers' homes.

Under this initiative, HealthyCT will promote Fresh Nation's website and services to its members as a healthy option. Fresh Nation, based in Stamford, will provide a 10 percent discount and free delivery to HealthyCT members and local residents within Fresh Nation's Fairfield County service area.

Ken Lalime, HealthyCT's CEO, said the service is important for members who are unable to visit farmers markets.
