    Police are cracking down on drunken driving over the holiday weekend.

    State police charged 63 people with driving under the influence during holiday weekend crackdowns and they issued thousands of tickets.

    State police started the July 4 Holiday Operation at 12:01 a.m. on Wednesday and it ended on July 7.

    They responded to 316 crashes, with 55 reported injuries.

    They issued 2,487 speeding tickets, 533 tickets for seatbelt violations and cited 5,633 other moving violations.   

    In 2012, state police responded to 323 crashes, made 45 DUI arrests and issued 1,059 speeding tickets.
