A Wallingford woman got a scare Sunday morning when a 7-foot-tall, 1,000 pound horse/donkey hybrid crossed her path in Hamden, and sent her off the road.

The shocked 49-year-old woman spotted the woman on Tuttle Avenue around 7 a.m. on Sunday, and in forced her off the road and into an open field, police said.

The animal, cops said, had escaped from its owner the day before. Somehow, they tracked down the horse-donkey’s owner and Hamden Animal Control returned it to Paul Novicki, 62, of Hamden, who was subsequently arrested, charged with reckless endangerment, detained on a $1,000 bond.

He is scheduled to appear in court in Meriden on Oct. 22.
