Sick Horses Now Better and Up For Adoption
A new lease on life for dozens of rescued horses.

It’s been a long recovery process for dozens of horses and goats in Storrs.
But after being rescued from abusive homes, they’ll get a new lease on life this weekend at UConn’s special fall auction.
Stallions, mares, Quarter Horses, Arabians, and miniature horses even some goats are all up on the auction block.
Many of the animals were rescued and brought to Gates Correctional Facility in Niantic where inmates played a big part in getting these horses healthy again. “They were abused and neglected and starved, injured. We rehabilitated them all back to good health and now we’re offering them to back to the public,” said Linda Wenner, a state animal control officer.
All of the animals up for adoption will have current health certificates, negative Coggins tests and have recently been fully vaccinated.
If you’re in the market for a horse or goat, bidding begins Saturday morning at 10 a.m. in the Horse Barn Hill Arena on Horse Barn Hill Road in Storrs. The state has the animals photos on the web for you to check out before heading to Storrs.
Funds raised by the auction go into the Animal Abuse Cost Recovery Account, which helps offset the expenses incurred in rehabilitation of the horses and other livestock.
