Hundreds Brave Rain for Hebron Fireworks

The wet weather put a damper on fireworks shows across the state this weekend.

Several had to be postponed, though a couple went off Sunday.

The Hebron Lions Club successfully shot off their fireworks show Sunday. Though people were bundled up and stayed off the wet grass.

“We’re prepared. We were almost going to bring an umbrella but the radar looked good,” says Jennell Koelling of Hebron.

Originally this event had been scheduled for Saturday. Organizers decided to move it to Sunday because of rain.

“I think we made the right decision. I mean yesterday the rain began here at the fairgrounds at 3:22 and it didn’t end until well after midnight. Today we’ve just had the patchy drizzle and it’s worked out well,” says Devon Garner, Hebron Lions Club fireworks superintendent.

Hebron went on.

But other shows Sunday were postponed including at Branford Point. The conditions made it impossible to setup the fireworks.

Back in Hebron, the crowd was smaller than usual.

Though the 1200 or so who did venture out were just as enthusiastic.

“I haven’t been here since last year and that was a long time ago,” says Marley Koelling of Hebron.

Branford expects to reschedule its show for late July.

Several other towns postponed displays as well.
