Hundreds of People Line Up for Drive-Thru Flu Shot Clinic in Farmington

NBC Connecticut was Connecting You to a flu shot clinic put on by ProHealth Physicians.

Best of all: people did not have to leave their car or have insurance to get the vaccine.

“It’s quick, easy and it’s free,” said Matthew Ruchwa, of Newington.

Hundreds of people headed over for a drive-thru flu shot clinic at ProHealth Physicians in Farmington.

“I came out here today to bring my elderly mom to get her flu shot. Sometimes she has a hard time walking around. And this is the perfect idea when you just drive through,” said Laurie Ann Ferreira, of Newington.

And no better time to do it with the CDC reporting that October is usually when flu activity picks up.

“It’s important that everyone gets their flu vaccines ever year,” said Dr. Morris Papernik, ProHealth Physicians.

Papernik tells us that is especially true for children, those over 65 years old and people with certain medical conditions.

As for the vaccine’s effectiveness this year?

“The CDC says seems to be more on target than they were last year. So we’re hoping to have much better control of the flu this year than last year,” said Papernik.

That’s good news for those who got their shots, especially as peak flu season approaches, which is usually sometime between December and February.

“I work in a school system and I’m around tons of people all the time. And I want to be healthy,” said Ferreira.

Because of Saturday’s success ProHealth plans to hold this drive-thru event again next year.
