New Milford police have arrested a 67-year-old man accused of trying to suffocate his wife with a pillow.
Police responded to a 911 call for a disturbance at the Cornwall Drive home of Herbert St. Jean early Saturday morning.
When police arrived at 3:18 a.m., they heard screaming from inside and forced their way in, where they found St. Jean trying to suffocate the victim with a pillow, according to a news release from police.
Police later confirmed that the victim is St. Jean's wife.
St. Jean was arrested without incident and his wife was treated at New Milford Hospital for minor injuries.
He was charged with criminal attempt to commit murder in the first degree, unlawful restraint in the first degree and interference with emergency calls.
St. Jean is being held on $1 million bond and will be arraigned on Monday.
It was not known Monday morning if he is represented by a lawyer.
